Meet the Author
Sylvia Abolis Mennear · Canadian Author · Storyteller · Grandmother
Every story begins with a little inspiration, a lot of imagination, and a heart full of love.
Welcome! I'm Sylvia Abolis Mennear, a Canadian author from beautiful British Columbia, where nature, family, and life's experiences have inspired my love of storytelling.
As a mother and grandmother, I believe children's books should do more than entertain. They should encourage kindness, compassion, friendship, understanding, and the joy of learning.
My independently published children's books are written with these values in mind, offering young readers wholesome, age-appropriate stories filled with warmth, imagination, and meaningful life lessons.
From the heartwarming bond between a grandmother and her grandson in Jaxx the Apple of Gramma's Eye, to the delightful adventures of two little Chihuahuas in Rosa and Rio: Tiny Dogs, Big Feelings, each story has a special place in my heart.
My Where's Rio? collection brings a little extra fun to reading, encouraging children to explore colourful illustrations, sharpen their observation skills, and enjoy the excitement of discovery.
I am also the author of Enchanted Castle on the River: Matt's Journey, a fantasy adventure, and Shattered Dreams and Broken Hearts: Fentanyl the Killer, a deeply personal story written to raise awareness about addiction and the devastating impact of fentanyl on families.
Through Wholesome Storybooks, my hope is to share stories that bring families together, spark young imaginations, and remind children that kindness and caring can make a difference.
Thank you for visiting. I hope you find a story here that touches your heart.
With warm wishes,
Sylvia Abolis Mennear
The Inspiration Behind Jaxx the Apple of Gramma's Eye
Some stories are especially close to the heart.
Jaxx the Apple of Gramma's Eye was inspired by my grandson, Jaxx, and the extraordinary love a grandmother feels for her grandchild.
Jaxx faces challenges with his vision, but those challenges do not define the wonderful little boy he is.
Through this story, I wanted to celebrate the special bond between grandparents and grandchildren while encouraging children to understand that everyone is unique and deserving of love, kindness, and acceptance.
It is a story written from a grandmother's heart, with the hope of touching many others.
